Our Story

We knew we wanted to start a family business but had no idea what it should be. It didn’t come to us immediately, until we found our current building for sale in Garden City. H & W Motors had been a presence on 35th and Clay Street for 30 years before the owner, Gary Hambley, decided to sell it. The day the property listed, we toured it and knew it was the perfect space and location for whatever our family venture would ultimately be. We love the ‘Live-Work-Create’ District of Garden City —and mixing the new with the already established. The eclectic, outdoorsy and artistic community along the greenbelt is comprised of talented and loyal people who endeavor to support the local and diverse culinary scene which includes coffee shops/roasters, wineries, breweries, and restaurants (brick and mortar and food trucks alike).

  • KYLER

Kyler is a singer/songwriter, musician and audio engineer who owns and operates Den Studios Recording in Garden City. He graduated with a degree in Audio Engineering/Music Business from Belmont University in Nashville, TN. After returning home following his time at school and work in Nashville, he fell in love with Garden City because it reminded him of the eclectic, artistic and culturally diverse East Nashville neighborhood. He is passionate about building and supporting the local music community. (Kyler owns the empty lot next door to 35th & Clay and this site will be the future home of Den Studios Recording).

  • JESSE

Jesse is a local artist, metalsmith and musician who graduated from Boise State University with his BFA in Visual Arts. He also spent a year attending San Francisco Art Institute. He currently manages the local company, Proof Eyewear. He may be considered a staple surfer at Boise Whitewater Park (in Garden City, 2 blocks north of 35th & Clay). He is a prominent member of the diverse, local artistic community.

  • CAM

Cam has been deeply involved in the Boise athletic community for many years and graduated with a BS in Kinesiology and is currently completing graduate school at ISU in Meridian. He will graduate with a Doctor of Physical Therapy in May, 2025. His passions include restoring and promoting health (through lifestyle and food choices), bringing people together and promoting community. He loves the outdoor lifestyle/activities that Boise offers.

  • HOLLY

Holly has lived around the world and graduated from high school in Morocco in North Africa. She has a deep appreciation for people, diverse cultures and travel, yet ultimately calls the Treasure Valley home. She loves the outdoor activities that can be found in the Boise area. She obtained a BA in Business from Boise State University and currently serves as property manager for 35th & Clay and is the Airbnb Superhost for The Lofts. She also manages her own new business called “Simply Sweet by Holly”

  • KACIE

Kacie graduated from Boise State University with a Bachelor of Applied Science in Environmental Studies with a minor in Sustainability. She was recently nominated as 2023 Best of Boise Bartender and finished in the top 3. She is currently a mixologist for Press & Pony, the popular speakeasy that recently won 2023 Best of Boise Bar. She loves the science behind creating a unique, well-balanced craft cocktail. She is passionate about promoting sustainability and supporting locally and humanely sourced foods. She has lived on the greenbelt in Garden City and has a deep appreciation for the eclectic atmosphere.

We came to this project with medical backgrounds, Tom (orthopedic surgeon) and Kristin (physical therapist/clinical nutritionist)—and did not foresee how this experience would translate into what would eventually become 35th & Clay. Let’s be honest and admit we had no idea what we were doing! Our love for people and deep appreciation for community aligned well with what we longed to contribute to Garden City. Beginning our project during 2020, in the midst of an isolating global pandemic, it became clear to us that it was timely to build a space that pampered guests, allowed decompression from stress, celebrated special moments, and promoted connection with the important people in our lives and community. We wanted to honor the old building and what its presence had meant to Garden City, so we chose to remodel rather than demolish the original structure (which resulted in many logistical headaches along the way but I believe we would still say it was worth it.) We became friends with Gary (former owner) who approved of our vision and was a daily presence in the construction trailer. Ultimately, the vision became a mixed-use building to include The Lofts at 35th and Clay (at the site of the former car lifts in the auto body shop) and restaurant space for lease. This led us to partner with Art Robinson to bring WEPA Authentic Puerto Rican Cuisine into the building, and we could not imagine a better partnership!

We brought an incredible local designer (and now a bff), Ashleigh Burchard, of Honey Design and Build on board to help develop the vision and beautiful aesthetic. In fact the private 3rd story roof-top hot tubs were literally her 3:00 am brilliant idea.

Dave Stauffer with Alpine Construction Management (ACM) (also a long time bff) and his team did a beautiful job of bringing our vision to life in constructing the building you see today!
